How can Chiropractic help with sport related injuries? There are many different types of sport, which require different intensity levels and skill sets from their athletes. Chiropractic can have benefits for all athletes, from the weekend warrior who enjoys climbing 14ers, to the high intensity, full contact professional athlete. Athletes of every sport have a few things in common; they generally share a desire to perform better at their sport, and there is always an inherent risk of a sport related injury.
Injuries are common in sports. It is important that the injury be properly examined because no two injuries are exactly the same and the treatment must be individually tailored. The first goal of treating a sport injury is to reduce pain and inflammation. This can be accomplished by using electrical stimulation, ultrasound, ice and rest. When the tissues are stable enough, joint manipulation may be used to realign structures and promote further healing.
Re-injury is a common problem with sports injuries. It is imperative that the effected area be fully rehabilitated to prevent re-injury. Rehabilitation exercises will help strengthen tissues around the injured area. Kinesio-taping may also be used to help stabilized the joint during activity to lessen the risk of re-injury.
